PROJECT OVERVIEW
Overview
Forest Lodge is a substantial rural property in Knitsley, County Durham, where New Energy designed a solar PV and battery storage system to increase on-site renewable generation and reduce reliance on grid electricity. The installation combines an 8.19 kWp solar array with 10 kWh of battery storage, helping the property make greater use of the clean energy generated on site while improving overall energy independence.
THE PROJECT
The Challenge
Forest Lodge is a large rural property with a higher-than-average energy demand and a strong requirement for greater energy independence. The challenge was to maximise useful solar generation from the available roof space while ensuring the system could store surplus energy for use outside daylight hours, reducing the property’s reliance on imported grid electricity.
HOW WE DELIVERED
The Solution
New Energy designed an 8.19 kWp solar PV system using 18 Astronergy 455 W all-black bifacial modules, combined with a Fox ESS EVO 10 all-in-one system incorporating an 8 kW inverter and 10 kWh of battery storage. The array was arranged across two strings of nine panels, with the battery system used to capture surplus solar generation for use later in the day and during periods of higher household demand.
THE OUTCOME
Results
The completed system is expected to generate around 5,506 kWh of renewable electricity each year. With battery storage included, the modelling indicates that approximately 69% of the property’s annual electricity demand can be supplied by the solar and battery system, significantly reducing reliance on imported grid electricity while improving long-term energy resilience and on-site use of renewable generation.
