PROJECT OVERVIEW
Overview
The Bastle is a private residential property in rural Fenwick, Newcastle, where New Energy delivered a 9.62 kWp solar PV system alongside 11.6 kW of battery storage. The system was designed to increase on-site renewable energy use, reduce reliance on the grid and give the homeowners greater energy independence in a rural setting.
THE PROJECT
The Challenge
The rural location created a need for greater energy resilience and reduced dependence on grid electricity. The homeowners wanted to lower their environmental impact and energy costs while ensuring the property had access to reliable renewable energy, even during periods of lower solar generation or higher household demand.
HOW WE DELIVERED
The Solution
New Energy installed a 9.62 kWp solar PV array on an outbuilding alongside an 11.6 kW battery storage system. The solar generation is used on site, with surplus energy stored for later use during periods of lower sunlight or higher household demand. This combined approach helps reduce grid dependence while improving the property’s overall energy resilience.
THE OUTCOME
Results
The completed solar PV and battery system has increased the property’s energy independence by reducing reliance on grid electricity and storing surplus solar energy for later use. The installation is expected to offset approximately 2.0 tonnes of CO₂ each year while also helping reduce household energy costs and improve long-term energy resilience.
